The Assembly Petition Committee Chairman, Rudrappa Manappa Lamani, praised the proactive efforts of MLA ST Somashekhar in preserving a playground under threat of privatization in Kengeri. Amid concerns about losing the land to commercial interests, the committee inspected the site and affirmed its commitment to safeguarding it for community use. The only recreational space in Kengeri faced potential exploitation for private gain, threatening its transformation into a lucrative property. MLA ST Somashekhar voiced concern over attempts by certain individuals to capitalize on a legal loophole, maneuvering to convert the playground into a high-value asset within the property market. Highlighting the collaborative efforts of local leaders and residents, MLA ST Somashekhar emphasized the significance of preserving this vital community space. Despite attempts to acquire the land for non-public purposes, continuous advocacy and support from sports enthusiasts and leaders ensured the playground’s continuity. The intervention led by committee members, including Suresh Kumar, Shivaram Hebbar, Rakesh Singh, among others, underscored the collective determination to prevent the encroachment on civic amenities in the region. Efforts are underway to secure the land for its intended public use, with discussions ongoing between the MLA, BDA, and civic authorities to formalize its status as a public playground, thwarting any potential privatization attempts.
