Consumer Commission Fined Insurance Company For Not Providing Compensation To Damaged Charger

A person named Govindan Nair of the city got Insurance for his electric Tata car for the period of November 6, 2022 to October 5, 2023 from Mecholamandalam General Insurance Company and on November 11, 2022 the car was parked in the portico of his house and installed a charger for electric charging. Accidentally the electric charger was  damaged. In this regard, the owner of the car filed a complaint with the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission  alleging service deficiency and seeking compensation against the insurance company as the claim submitted to the insurance company was not awarded.

In this regard, the Commission after investigating both the parties confirmed that the Insurance company has committed a service deficiency in providing insurance compensation, Mecholamandalam, General Insurance Company to pay Rs.34,840  to the complainant within 45 days from the date of the order, in case of default, to pay the amount with interest at 7 percent  per annum and Rs 10,000 for mental torture to the complainant and Rs 10,000 as legal expenses to be paid to the complainant within 45 days from the date of order, in default of this amount with interest at the rate of 10 percent  per annum.  The bench comprising of Commission Chairman T Shivanna, Women Member Savita, B Pattanashetty and   BD Yogananda made the order.
