DC Instructs To Control KFD Through Control Measures And Testing

The District Collector Dr. Selvamani R told the officials that Cassanur Forest Disease should be effectively controlled by controlling the number of ticks on cattle and early detection of the disease through tests. He was presiding over the inter-departmental coordination meeting on KFD and Rabies organized at the District Administration Office Hall yesterday.  Areas of high tick density in the highlands should be identified and measures should be taken to prevent cattle from grazing in such areas. Cattle should be vaccinated with Ivermectin/Doramectin from time to time. Poron should be sprayed on the backs of cattle. Farmers should keep the cattle and barns clean. New hotspots of ticks should be reduced. Farmers should be made aware about tick control and KFD. Health department should carry out tick sample testing, tick survey. Suspected KFD cases should be tested for early detection. Health education should be increased.
