Aizawl
During an election rally in Aizawl, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his concern over the ongoing crisis in Manipur and the drug menace in Mizoram. He criticized the Prime Minister for not visiting Manipur, where people have been killed for over five months, and instead focusing on international matters, particularly the Middle East. Rahul Gandhi called the situation in Manipur a symptom of broader issues affecting India, including tribal, minority, and Dalit communities feeling uncomfortable under BJP rule. He emphasized the duty of every Indian to protect the country’s diverse cultures and religions, regardless of their own beliefs. He also pointed out the issue of drug abuse in Mizoram, with 259 young lives lost to the drug epidemic, attributing this problem to the lack of job opportunities for the youth in the state. According to Rahul Gandhi, the MNF government in Mizoram has provided only 2000 jobs in the last five years. He highlighted the Congress-led governments’ performance in states like Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, where various beneficial schemes have been implemented in areas such as healthcare, women’s welfare, and education.
