Amid escalating tensions in the Israel-Gaza conflict, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken characterized his meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh as very productive. This critical diplomatic engagement occurred as Israel geared up for a ground assault in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, and the United States actively sought to contain the conflict.
In their discussions, the Saudi Crown Prince emphasized the imperative of finding a peaceful resolution, adhering to international law, and lifting the Israeli blockade on Gaza. Expressing the urgency of securing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and establishing lasting peace, the meeting underscored the pressing need for diplomatic efforts to avert further escalation in the region.
Blinken, currently on an extensive Middle East tour, is committed to working with regional allies to de-escalate tensions and secure the release of hostages held by Hamas militants. With Israel vowing a severe response to recent attacks by Hamas fighters, the situation remains highly volatile.
During the meeting, which lasted nearly an hour at the Crown Prince’s private farm residence, the U.S. Secretary of State reaffirmed the United States’ steadfast focus on halting terrorist activities by Hamas and ensuring the release of hostages. The State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller, emphasized their joint commitment to protecting civilians and fostering stability in the Middle East and beyond.
Blinken’s meetings in the Middle East represent the United States’ active engagement in de-escalating tensions and fostering a conducive environment for peace negotiations, underlining the importance of collaborative efforts in the pursuit of regional stability and security.
