Haveri
With the state government focusing on implementing its five guarantees, it is being said that development works in the state have been affected. The state government has a Rs 60 crore payment pending to KBR Constructions which has taken up the construction works of the Haveri Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS). Due to a fund crunch, the works on the HIMS campus are being carried out at a slow pace and the agency is delaying meeting the deadline set by the government.
The shifting of classes and hostels to the new building from the government engineering college campus is also delayed. KBR Construction promised to hand over the first phase of the building by August 15, but due to fund scarcity, it has been postponed. Students and parents are worried about this development.
Raghavendra, AEE, Department of Health and Family Welfare and HIMS admitted the delay and said the government had released Rs 23 crore in May, and the contractor had promised that he would hand over the first phase of HIMS building by August 15. However, due to delays in finishing the work, it is not done yet.
We have submitted a proposal for releasing funds. We hope the government will meet our appeal, he said. The government needs to release Rs 60 crore. We have been waiting for the last three months, but have not received it. We are not getting credit for purchasing materials. At least 800 labourers work every day. It has become very difficult to manage the work of the HIMS building. Now we have been using the materials that we have on the site. However, due to the fund crunch, we have been facing difficulty giving salaries. We have requested District Minister Shivanand Patil and local legislators to pressure the government to release funds, shared Kiran Kumar, Project Head of KBR Infratech.
