Bengaluru

A week after the final delimitation of 225 wards was announced, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the city’s civic body, has uploaded maps of the new wards on its website. The final notification was issued after considering various suggestions and objections from citizens. The BBMP has released maps of all the wards within the respective Assembly constituencies, providing comprehensive details about each ward, including roads, railway lines, parks, and tanks/ponds. Following a Karnataka High Court directive, the Urban Development Department (UDD) undertook the task of delimitation, reducing the number of wards from 243 to 225. The previous BJP government had delimited 243 wards and completed the process of ward reservation, which was subsequently challenged in court. The court rejected the delimitation petitions and ordered the government to redo the ward reservations. Upon assuming power, the Congress government identified loopholes in the delimitation process and informed the court. The Karnataka Congress, led by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, has welcomed several former corporators and is expected to embrace more leaders in the coming days. The BBMP has indicated that the final electoral list will likely be announced in the first week of January, after which elections may be scheduled.
