The capital city’s pioneering driverless metro trains in Delhi are soon set to make their debut in Bangalore. This technological leap will see autonomous trains operating along the yellow line of the city’s metro system, specifically the R.V. Road – Bommasandra route. Anticipated to arrive in the city by the end of October 2024, these driverless marvels will consist of two trains, each comprising 12 coaches, imported from China. The prestigious contract for the supply of driverless metro bogies was secured by the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation. This contract encompasses a total of 216 coaches, marking a significant advancement in Bangalore’s metro infrastructure. In line with the agreement, China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation is poised to dispatch two 12-coach driverless metro trains to Bangalore during the month of October. Intriguingly, the remainder of the train carriages, forming a significant portion of the 216 coaches, will be fabricated by India’s very own Titagar Rail India Company. Out of this pool, 126 coaches (equivalent to 21 trains consisting of 6 coaches each) have been designated for the Green and Blue metro lines, while the remaining 90 coaches (equivalent to 15 trains comprising six coaches each) will exclusively serve the Yellow line. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has dispatched a team to China to oversee various inspections, including those related to signaling and operational specifics. Upon successful completion of these rigorous tests, the two driverless trains will commence their journey, arriving at the Chennai port from China. Subsequently, these technologically advanced trains will be transported by road from Chennai to their new home in Bangalore. This groundbreaking development promises not only enhanced efficiency and convenience for commuters but also positions Bangalore at the forefront of modern transportation technology in India.
