In response to the Ladakh administration’s allocation of the ‘plough’ symbol to the National Conference (NC) following the Supreme Court’s intervention, NC Vice President Omar Abdullah criticized the Ladakh administration for displaying bias. Omar addressed the media on Friday after the Ladakh administration issued a new notification for the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) elections, assigning the plough symbol to the NC. The fresh notification came after the Supreme Court invalidated the previous LAHDC election notification that had denied the NC its traditional plough symbol for these elections. We had to wait for what was rightfully ours as a political party, as election guidelines clearly outline symbol allocation. It’s evident that the Ladakh administration had a biased agenda, remarked Omar. NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah responded to the Ladakh administration’s decision, stating: We have received what was rightfully ours. A leader from the BJP, in reaction to the plough symbol allocation to the NC, emphasized: This decision stems from the country’s Supreme Court, and it’s essential that we all respect the apex court’s decision. The BJP leader, who requested anonymity, also urged political rivals to demonstrate equal respect for all judicial decisions. Congress leaders generally welcomed the decision, stressing that elections are a democratic process and should provide a level playing field for all contestants. So far, there has been no response from other regional political parties regarding this development.
