Goalkeeper Andre Onana of Cameroon has reversed his decision to retire from international football and is set to represent his nation in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Burundi. Last week, Cameroon’s head coach, Rigobert Song, included the 27-year-old Manchester United player in the squad for the forthcoming qualifier. This marks a significant change in Onana’s stance, as he had previously announced his retirement from international football in December due to disagreements with Song over tactical matters. In a statement shared on his social media profiles on Monday, Onana expressed his unwavering desire to represent his country, emphasizing his commitment to the national team’s success. He acknowledged past challenges but urged unity and collaboration to achieve common goals for Cameroon. Cameroon only needs a draw in their match against Burundi, which will be played on home turf, to secure qualification for AFCON. Onana’s return to the team could bolster their chances in the tournament.
