A birthday celebration took a tragic turn as two young lives were lost during a swimming outing in a lake within the jurisdiction of Hulimavu Police Station. The victims, Solomon (28) from Chikkammanahalli and Abhishek (29) from BTM Layout, had ventured into the water to mark the occasion but found themselves entangled in a fateful incident that cost them their lives. Solomon, employed at a second-hand car showroom, had recently become engaged and was in the process of setting up a new residence in Chikkammanahalli. His friend Abhishek, originally from Maharashtra and working in a call center at BTM Layout, was a long-standing companion. Their deep bond led Abhishek to Solomon’s house to celebrate his birthday on a somber Wednesday evening. The evening took a tragic turn when alcohol entered the picture. The two friends indulged in drinks before deciding to take a swim in a lake situated near Solomon’s residence. Unfortunately, their inebriation and perhaps the murky water contributed to a grave outcome as they became trapped in the mud and lost their lives in the process. Solomon’s plans for marriage had prompted his parents to lease a house in Chikkammanahalli for his future. With Abhishek visiting to join in the festivities, the joyous occasion spiraled into a sorrowful tragedy. The lake, where the ill-fated swimming escapade occurred, was marked by incomplete development work. Residents had long voiced their concerns about the lack of proper safety measures in the area, and their fears were realized in this heart-wrenching incident. The incident has not only brought immense grief to the families and friends of the victims but also cast a spotlight on the need for enhanced safety measures around public spaces such as lakes.
