Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists staged a protest condemning the decision of the state government to scrap the National Education Policy (NEP). Activists submitted a memorandum to the state government through the deputy commissioner.
ABVP activists took out a march from Channamma Circle to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
It was not the central government, but educational experts formulated the NEP. It was implemented after taking opinions of the state governments. It is not right to scrap the NEP in the state, without discussing its pros and cons in an appropriate forum, they said in the memorandum.
The state government should review the NEP from an educational point of view without succumbing to politically motivated narrow-mindedness and without making education an object of selfish achievement, the ABVP activists demanded. If any minor errors are found in the NEP, they should be corrected keeping in mind the interest of students, they stated. ABVP City Unit Secretary Preetam Upari, Rohit Umanabadimath, Sachin Hiremath, Prashant Shellikeri, Suhas Huddar, Kishori Patil, Sneha Dharwadkar were present.
