Belagavi division targets improved SSLC results through FLN

HUBBALLI
Dr. Eshwar Ullagaddi, Additional Commissioner of the School Education Department, urged teachers and education officials to work together to strengthen Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) and Lesson-Based Assessment (LBA) programmes to improve SSLC results.

He was speaking at a Belagavi division-level consultative meeting held at Deshpande Foundation Sabha Bhavan on the BVB campus in Hubballi on Thursday.

Ullagaddi congratulated teachers and officials after the Belagavi division secured first place in the state in the latest SSLC results. He said the achievement was the result of continuous efforts by school staff and education officers. However, he urged them not to become complacent and instead aim for better performance during the current academic year through planned preparation.

He said the department’s target should not be limited to achieving 100 percent results. Teachers must focus on improving learning quality and helping students achieve strong marks. He highlighted the 60 Plus programme and urged officials to ensure its effective implementation. LBA questions, he said, can help identify learning gaps, while regular reviews of student answers and progress can guide additional teaching.

Ullagaddi said FLN must receive special attention at the primary level. Students should gradually develop reading skills at word, sentence and paragraph levels, along with basic mathematical abilities such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Monthly learning standards will be reviewed, and students who fall behind should receive additional support.

He stressed that FLN should become a regular classroom practice rather than remain only a departmental programme. Strong foundational skills, he said, would help students perform better in higher classes and ultimately improve SSLC results. School Education Department Director Mamata Nayak, Joint Director Jayashree Karekar and other officials participated in the meeting.
