The general body meeting of Hulsoor Gram Panchayat was held under police security amid tension over various infrastructure issues and matters related to the administration of the gram panchayat.Gram Panchayat President Deeparani Bosthe presided over the meeting. Vice-President Meerabai Gaikwad and PDO Vinay Kumar were present.
During the meeting, members questioned the PDO over several issues, including drinking water, drainage, streetlights, the building for persons with disabilities, 15th Finance Commission funds and road repairs. Members pointed out that the drinking water purification unit in Ward No. 6 had remained non-functional for the past five months, causing inconvenience to residents. They demanded that the problem be resolved immediately.
The members also demanded that steps be taken to fill the vacant post of bill collector, following the retirement of the incumbent, and that a proposal be submitted to the higher authorities for filling the post.They said there was a shortage of streetlight bulbs in all wards and that around 800 bulbs were required. The members demanded that bulbs be purchased and installed using the 15th Finance Commission funds and that necessary steps be taken for payment of the bills.
Members raised objections over the alleged failure to provide proper information and records related to the 15th Finance Commission funds. A verbal exchange reportedly took place between the members and the PDO over the issue.The members insisted that records pertaining to the panchayat’s financial transactions and various development works be made available to them. When members raised issues concerning drainage and drinking water facilities in different wards, the PDO reportedly cited a shortage of funds. The members objected and demanded that proposals be submitted to higher authorities seeking adequate funds to address the problems.
The members also alleged that some works carried out under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) were of poor quality. They pointed out that most roads within the gram panchayat limits were in a damaged condition and demanded that letters be submitted to the concerned authorities seeking their repair.They further demanded an inspection of the alleged substandard works and appropriate action against those responsible.
