American Bitcoin posts $57.2M quarterly loss

Intro: The decline pressured crypto companies and devalued digital asset holdings

New York

American Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency mining company backed by two sons of U.S. President Donald Trump, reported a second-quarter loss of $57.2 million on Monday as a sharp decline in Bitcoin prices weighed on its financial performance.

The company had recorded a profit of $3.4 million during the corresponding quarter last year. Despite the loss, its revenue more than doubled to around $67 million from $30.3 million a year earlier, reflecting increased mining activity and expansion of its Bitcoin holdings.

Bitcoin prices fell by more than 11% during the April-June quarter as rising geopolitical tensions pushed investors towards safer assets and triggered a broader risk-off sentiment across financial markets. The decline placed pressure on cryptocurrency-related companies and reduced the value of digital asset holdings.

American Bitcoin continued to expand its operations despite the market downturn. Its Bitcoin holdings increased by 14% from the previous quarter to more than 8,000 coins.

The company also achieved record quarterly production, mining approximately 932 Bitcoin during the second quarter. The increase was driven by its continued focus on expanding mining capacity and improving operational performance.

Chief Executive Officer Mike Ho said the company remained focused on factors within its control despite challenging market conditions.

“Despite Bitcoin headwinds in the second quarter, we stayed focused on what we can control,” Ho said.

The results highlight the volatility faced by cryptocurrency mining companies, whose earnings are heavily influenced by changes in Bitcoin prices, mining costs and broader investor sentiment.

While higher production and revenue demonstrated continued operational growth, the substantial quarterly loss underscored the financial risks associated with sharp movements in digital asset markets.

Revenue more than doubled to $67 million as mining activity surged. Despite holding over 8,000 coins, falling Bitcoin prices triggered a quarterly loss, contrasting with last year’s profit, amid broader financial market pressures.
