CPCB Orders Closure of Kalyani Steels in Koppal Over Environmental Violations, Power Supply Cut, Factory Operations Halted Following Regulatory Action and Compliance Issues
Koppal
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has directed the Koppal district administration to shut down Kalyani Steels Limited located at Ginigera in Koppal taluk for allegedly violating environmental regulations.
Following the CPCB order, Deputy Commissioner Suresh Itnal instructed officials to disconnect the electricity supply to the factory, resulting in the suspension of its operations.
The company was accused of functioning in violation of environmental norms, with local residents reportedly raising concerns over the impact of pollution on their livelihood. After reviewing the matter, the CPCB issued directions to close the industrial unit.
On July 3, CPCB Chairman Aman Deep Garg and Member Secretary Bharat Kumar Sharma issued an order directing the closure of Kalyani Steels Limited. Subsequently, HESCOM officials visited the plant on July 14 and disconnected the power connection, following which the factory operations were halted.
Deputy Commissioner Suresh Itnal said the CPCB had instructed the administration to disconnect power supply to the company for violations under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act and the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act.
“Based on the CPCB directions, I instructed HESCOM officials to disconnect the electricity connection. Once the power supply is cut, the factory operations automatically come to a halt,” Itnal said.
He further stated that one of the major issues was the company’s failure to implement the required Online Continuous Monitoring System (OCMS). Although the company later informed officials through email that the system had been installed, the action could not be withdrawn until fresh instructions were received from the CPCB.
The closure order highlights the strict enforcement of environmental compliance measures by regulatory authorities and signals increased monitoring of industrial units to prevent pollution-related violations.
