Heavy rainfall across parts of Aland and Afzalpur taluks brought widespread relief to farmers after weeks of dry conditions, replenishing streams, nalas and check dams and improving soil moisture levels in several villages.

In Aland taluk, significant rainfall was recorded in Madan Hippargi, Kerur, Darga Shirur, Ambewadi and the Khajuri region. Seasonal water bodies such as Maragammana Halla, Ningadalli Halla and multiple nalas along the Chalagera–Maindargi stretch were filled with rainwater, while Shirpur Model Check Dams also received substantial inflow.

Farmers in villages around Mogha K. and Ikkalki, who had already completed early monsoon sowing, had been concerned as germinating crops were experiencing moisture stress. The fresh rainfall has helped restore soil moisture, providing much-needed support for crop growth and reducing immediate risk to young plants.

Heavy showers were also reported in several villages under the Khajuri region, including Salegaon, Teerth, Niragudi, Chitali, Bangaragi, Matki, Hebli, Padasavali and Chincholi. These areas reported favourable conditions for ongoing and upcoming sowing operations, strengthening hopes for improved agricultural output this season.

However, rainfall remained uneven across the taluk. While Aland town received only light drizzle, areas such as Narona and Nimbarga remained largely dry, highlighting the patchy nature of monsoon activity in the region.

In Afzalpur taluk, heavy rain during Saturday evening led to overflow in streams and rivulets in villages under Gottur (B) and Atanur hoblis. The sudden inflow benefited agricultural fields, with water accumulating in low-lying areas, improving moisture conditions ahead of sowing.

In one incident, a farmer stranded in the overflowing Gottur stream near Neelur village was safely rescued with the help of a Hitachi earthmover, underscoring the risks associated with fast-moving rainwater channels during intense showers.

Afzalpur town and Karajgi hobli received moderate rainfall, while agricultural officials noted that two hoblis had received adequate rain for sowing activities, whereas the remaining areas were still awaiting sufficient showers.

Assistant Director of Agriculture S.H. Gadagimani and Agriculture Officer Anand stated that the forecast from the India Meteorological Department indicates widespread rainfall in the coming days, raising optimism among farmers for a stable and productive monsoon season.
