Russia unleashes another aerial barrage on Ukraine

Moscow

Russia launched a fresh wave of overnight drone attacks, missile strikes and shelling across multiple regions of Ukraine, killing at least one person and injuring more than 30 others, Ukrainian officials said on Monday.
Ukrainian authorities said Russian drones struck residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure during the overnight assault.

In the strategic Black Sea port city of Odesa, drones damaged apartment buildings, a school and a kindergarten, according to local military administration chief Serhiy Lysak.

Emergency crews were deployed to the affected areas as rescue operations and damage assessments continued through the morning.

Officials reported that an 11-year-old boy and a 59-year-old man were among those injured in the Odesa attack. Images released by local authorities showed destroyed vehicles, shattered windows and debris scattered across residential streets following the strikes.

In a separate attack, Russia launched missiles at the southeastern city of Dnipro, injuring at least 18 people. Regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha said two children were among the wounded, including a two-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy. Medical teams continued treating the injured while emergency workers inspected damaged buildings and infrastructure.

Further east, the Zaporizhzhia region also came under attack overnight. Regional governor Ivan Fedorov confirmed that three people were injured during the strikes. In the southern Kherson region, another person was killed and nine others were wounded after shelling and drone attacks hit populated areas, according to regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin.

The latest assaults highlight the continued use of drones and missile attacks by both sides in the prolonged conflict. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, while Moscow claims its attacks are aimed at military facilities and strategic assets.

Meanwhile, Russian authorities reported that several Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight over the southern Russian regions of Rostov and Belgorod. Russia’s defence ministry said air defence systems successfully shot down the drones before they could reach their intended targets.

The renewed violence followed one of Ukraine’s largest drone operations against Russia in recent months. Over the weekend, Ukrainian drones targeted Moscow and surrounding regions in what officials described as the biggest overnight attack on the Russian capital in more than a year. Russian authorities said at least four people died during those strikes, including three in the Moscow region.

The escalating exchange of drone and missile attacks underscores the continuing volatility of the conflict, despite repeated international calls for de-escalation and renewed peace negotiations.
