Slug: Festival Day Celebrated
Chikkaballapur
Mahavir Jayanti was celebrated by the district administration in Chikkaballapur, where officials highlighted the timeless teachings of Lord Mahavira, emphasizing compassion, non-violence, and righteous living as guiding principles for society. The event was organized on Tuesday at the Deputy Commissioner’s office auditorium by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat, and the Department of Kannada and Culture. Assistant Officer Arundhati, speaking on the occasion, said that the teachings of Lord Mahavira inspire people to lead a life rooted in kindness, non-violence, and moral values.
She explained that Mahavir Jayanti is one of the most significant festivals of Jainism, commemorating the birth of Lord Mahavira, the 24th and last Tirthankara. She highlighted that Lord Mahavira preached five core principles—non-violence, truth, non-stealing, celibacy, and non-possessiveness—which continue to remain relevant in today’s world. Devotees marked the occasion through prayers, fasting, charity, and various religious activities.
Community leader S.N. Amrit Kumar delivered a lecture on the life and philosophy of Lord Mahavira. He described how Mahavira, born as Vardhamana into a royal family in Bihar, developed a deep inclination towards spirituality from a young age. Despite being raised in a life of luxury, he became aware of human suffering and sought a path toward enlightenment.
Amrit Kumar elaborated that at the age of 30, Mahavira renounced worldly possessions and embarked on a spiritual journey in search of liberation from the cycle of birth and death. He adopted a life of strict discipline, simplicity, and deep meditation, which eventually led to his enlightenment. His journey through forests and mountains symbolized his commitment to spiritual awakening and service to humanity.
The program also featured a musical performance by artist Mahesh Kumar and his team, which captivated the audience. Officials from the Department of Kannada and Culture, including Assistant Director Ravikumar, along with community leaders and members of the public, were present at the event, making it a meaningful and inspiring celebration.
