Fuel hike sparks food price surge in Punjab

Rawalpindi

Rising fuel prices in Pakistan have pushed up transport costs, causing a sharp increase in food prices across Punjab province. Traders report that goods from Karachi, Faisalabad, and Sargodha are now costlier to move, raising retail rates. Milk sells at PKR 230 per kg, mutton at PKR 2,700, and rice at PKR 400 per kg. Vegetables like tomatoes and garlic, and fruits such as apples and bananas, are also more expensive. Traders say the fuel hike has disrupted supply chains, driving persistent inflation. Consumers face growing pressure as essential food becomes less affordable.
