Dilapidated Nursing Quarters Leave Doctors without Shelter

Turuvekere
The poor condition of a nursing home attached to a Primary Health Center in Turuvekere taluk has raised serious concerns, as the building has fallen into complete disrepair, leaving doctors and healthcare staff without proper accommodation.
The issue has come to light in Mavinakere village, located in Dabbegatta hobli of Turuvekere taluk in Tumkur district. The nursing quarters, which were meant to house doctors and junior health staff, are now in a severely dilapidated state, making them unfit for living. As a result, medical personnel are struggling to find suitable accommodation while continuing to serve patients in the area.

Mavinakere holds strategic importance as it is one of the last villages in the taluk and connects the hoblis of Mayasandra and Dabbegatta. The primary health center here caters to a large population, with around 70 to 80 patients visiting daily from more than 30 surrounding villages. These include Malenavalagerahalli, Kadsur, Mudigere, Byadarahalli, Arahalli, Karadigere, Muddammarahalli, Nagalapura, K. Hosur, Obbenagasandra, J.C. Pura, and Maddanahalli.

Despite serving such a vast population, the lack of proper residential facilities for doctors and nurses has become a major concern. Reports suggest that the dormitories for junior health staff and doctors were constructed several decades ago and have not been adequately maintained over the years. Cracks in the walls, leaking roofs, and unsafe structures have rendered the building unusable.

Healthcare workers have expressed difficulties in staying near the health center, which affects their ability to respond quickly during emergencies. Many are forced to travel from distant locations, leading to delays in patient care and added stress on the already stretched healthcare system.

Local residents and community leaders have urged authorities to take immediate action to repair or rebuild the quarters. They emphasize that improving basic infrastructure is essential to ensure better healthcare services in rural areas.

The situation highlights the urgent need for government intervention to upgrade facilities and provide safe living conditions for medical staff. Without such measures, the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare delivery in the region could be significantly impacted.
