A tragic accident at the Kartik Purnima Fair in Ramghat village on Wednesday evening claimed the life of a six-year-old girl and left five others injured when a swing collapsed during the festivities.
Police said the incident took place around 6 p.m. after the swing’s axle bearing broke, causing it to crash suddenly. The victim, identified as Himanshi (6), was standing close to the ride when it fell, suffering severe injuries. Five people who were on the swing also sustained minor injuries in the mishap.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Tejveer Singh stated that the injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Doctors there declared the child brought dead, while the others were treated for minor wounds and discharged after first aid.
Following the accident, authorities took four persons into custody for questioning. Police have registered a case at Ramghat police station under relevant sections related to negligence and safety violations.
Officials said that an investigation is underway to determine whether proper safety checks were conducted before the fair rides were opened to the public. The fairground, which was crowded with devotees and families celebrating Kartik Purnima, witnessed panic and confusion following the collapse.
Local residents demanded stricter supervision and safety inspections of amusement rides at fairs to prevent such tragedies in the future. Police assured that those found responsible for the accident would face strict legal action once the inquiry concludes.
