Windfall for Women in Blue: BCCI Announces ₹51 Crore Reward for Indian Women’s Team

The triumph not only avenged the heartbreaks of the 2005 and 2017 finals but also marked the dawn of a new era for women’s cricket in India.

New Delhi

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced a monumental cash reward of ₹51 crore for the Indian women’s cricket team following their historic World Cup triumph against South Africa in Navi Mumbai.

“As a token of appreciation, the BCCI will reward the Indian women’s cricket team with a cash award of ₹51 crore for winning the World Cup. This includes all players, support staff, and the national selection committee,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said in a statement.

India’s triumph under captain Harmanpreet Kaur marked the country’s first-ever global title in women’s cricket. With the 52-run victory, India joined Australia, England, and New Zealand as the only teams to have lifted the coveted ODI trophy.

After posting an imposing 298 for seven — the second-highest total in tournament history — India bowled out South Africa for 246 in 45.3 overs to seal the long-awaited crown.

The win not only erased the heartbreaks of the 2005 and 2017 finals but also ushered in a new era for women’s cricket in India. “This is a golden chapter for the women’s game. The team’s grit and composure have made every Indian proud,” the BCCI said in a congratulatory post.

The historic victory has also sparked nationwide celebrations, with former cricketers and fans hailing the team’s achievement as a turning point in Indian cricket’s evolution.
