Mass Intensive Cleanliness Drive to Be Held on November 8 Across North Bengaluru

Public cooperation for such programmes is essential to become more effective in maintaining cleanliness

BENGALURU

In an effort to make the city cleaner and raise awareness about hygiene in public spaces, the Bengaluru North City Corporation has announced a Mass Intensive Cleanliness Drive to be held on November 8. The initiative, led by Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar, aims to bring together government agencies, civic staff, and residents in a coordinated cleanliness effort.

The drive will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., covering a stretch of 93.9 km across the Hebbal, Pulakeshinagar, Sarvagnanagar, Yelahanka, Byatarayanapura, Dasarahalli, and Rajarajeshwari Nagar divisions. The operation will focus on clearing waste, silt, debris, and fallen tree branches, as well as desilting and cleaning stormwater drains.

Multiple departments — including Solid Waste Management, Engineering, Road Infrastructure (RI), Health, Traffic Police, Horticulture, Forest, and Lake Management — will participate alongside local organizations and civic groups.

To promote enthusiasm and accountability among officials, the City Corporation will present awards to the top three Assembly Constituencies that perform best during the drive. Evaluations will be conducted by NGOs and civic organizations.

  • First Prize: ₹1 lakh
  • Second Prize: ₹50,000
  • Third Prize: ₹25,000
Additionally, consolation prizes will be distributed at the division level.

The Commissioner noted that City Corporation staff work tirelessly every day to maintain cleanliness across Bengaluru. As part of ongoing civic engagement, a “Phone-In” programme is held every Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., where public complaints are addressed directly. Grievances received via WhatsApp, the Sahaaya App, and the central helpline are being resolved within 24 to 48 hours.

The City Corporation has implemented several proactive measures to improve civic amenities and promote a cleaner environment. Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar emphasized that public participation is crucial for the success of such initiatives. He urged residents to actively cooperate with the City Corporation to tackle challenges related to waste management, sanitation, and infrastructure maintenance for a cleaner, greener Bengaluru.
