BENGALURU
The long-awaited arterial road connecting Magadi Road with the Bengaluru–Mysuru access-controlled highway has hit yet another delay, with its completion now pushed to early 2026. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had earlier revised the project’s deadline to November 2025, but persistent monsoon rains and pending railway clearances have forced another extension.
The 11-km stretch, designed to ease congestion across western Bengaluru, passes through Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout and connects to the Bengaluru–Mysuru highway near Challaghatta. Officials said that while most of the roadwork is complete, progress on the crucial railway underpass near Challaghatta has been stalled.
“As part of the project, we are constructing a railway underbridge using box-push technology. The precast boxes have been ready for nearly two months, but continuous rain halted progress,” a senior BDA official said. “We also need line and power blocks from South Western Railway (SWR) to launch the girders. Their team has inspected the site, and once we receive clearance, we’ll begin the girder launch followed by push-boxing work.”
Given that the Bengaluru–Mysuru rail corridor is one of the busiest in the region, work can only be carried out in short intervals during non-operational hours. The underbridge will be 14 metres wide, with each precast box segment measuring 40 metres.
Officials expressed confidence that the road could be opened for public use by January 2026, once the underbridge and safety tests are completed.
The Rs 500-crore six-lane project aims to provide motorists a direct link between two major western corridors—Magadi Road and Mysuru Road—cutting travel time and easing congestion in interior areas. The road passes through Kambipura, Challaghatta, K Krishnanagar, Bhimanakuppe, Kommaghatta, Sulikere, Kenchanapura, Kannalli, Machohalli, and adjoining localities.
With several major bridges, box culverts, and rotary junctions already in place, commuters and residents are hoping the long-delayed project will finally bring relief to Bengaluru’s traffic woes next year.
