Cartooning is an art that teaches us to view life through the lens of humor, blending laughter with deep reflection. Fr. Dominic Sunil Lobo, Principal of Perampalli Trinity Central School, said cartoons encourage creative thinking, reveal life’s lighter side, and convey powerful messages through simple imagery. He spoke at the inauguration of the Nammooru Chitra Kala Award ceremony and a one-day cartooning workshop organized by Trivarna Art Classes in Manipal on Sunday.
“Art transcends language, culture, and age, connecting directly with the heart. It expresses emotions—joy, gratitude, sorrow—more profoundly than words. Art is the path to creativity,” Lobo added.
Senior cartoonist James Vaz, the chief guest, highlighted the uniqueness of cartoons, noting that observing people and surroundings closely inspires satire, allowing artists to develop their style. Veteran cartoonist Jeevan Shetty and Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association Secretary Nazir Polya were also present. The Nammooru Chitra Kala awards were presented during the event.
Trivarna Art Classes’ director and artist Harish Saga welcomed the guests and delivered the introductory remarks, while Pranathi B. Shetty offered the felicitation, and Srilatha Shenai anchored the program. Through demonstrations, creative exercises, and exhibitions led by James Vaz and Jeevan Shetty, participants—including both children and adults—engaged enthusiastically, exploring the humorous yet insightful world of cartoon art.
