The Yelahanka police have apprehended six individuals involved in a daring robbery, in which they posed as government officials to enter a lecturer’s home, steal Rs 1.50 crore, and flee within 15 minutes.
The incident occurred on September 19 at the residence of Giriraj Kumar, a lecturer from North Karnataka employed at a private college in Kempapura, Hebbal. Following a complaint, authorities arrested Shankar, Rajendra Manot Jain, Hemanth Jain, Srinivas Gowda, Jagan Mohan, Srinivas, and Kiran Jain, recovering Rs 1.27 crore in cash, two cars used in the crime, and registration documents. Police stated that one other accomplice remains at large and is being actively searched.
Giriraj, who resides in Vinayak Nagar, Yelahanka, had recently sold land and kept approximately Rs 1.50 crore in cash at home. Shankar, the lecturer’s former car driver who had quit his job to start a real estate business, learned about the cash and informed his associates. The group of eight planned the robbery by disguising themselves as government officials, with Rajendra using a borrowed Innova fitted with fake registration plates.
On the morning of September 19, the eight perpetrators arrived in two groups. Four entered the lecturer’s home, claiming to be government officials investigating money laundering, while four waited outside. They threatened Giriraj’s wife and parents and stole Rs 1.50 crore in cash, along with land and house registration papers stored in three bags.
CCTV footage captured the accused fleeing, and technical investigations traced them through Vijayanagar, Sanjay Nagar, Domlur, and Ramamurthy Nagar. Ultimately, some were arrested near Madanapalle, Andhra Pradesh, along with the getaway car, while the remaining suspects were apprehended in the city, according to police.
