Seminar highlights Ambedkar’s connection between Constitution, Sanskrit

National seminar at Karnataka Samskrit University highlights Dr. Ambedkar’s insights connecting Constitution and Sanskrit.

A two-day national seminar on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Constitution, and Sanskrit Literature was organized on October 9 and 10, 2025, by the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Studies and Research Centre, Karnataka Samskrit University, Bengaluru. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Shivananda Kalaginamani, Vice-Chancellor of Adikavi Shri Valmiki University, Vijayanagara. Delivering the valedictory address, Dr. Mudnakudu Chinnaswamy highlighted the deep interconnection between the Constitution and Sanskrit. He emphasized that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s profound knowledge of Sanskrit enabled him to interpret and compare diverse legal traditions with great insight. Dr. Chinnaswamy also recalled Ambedkar’s suggestion to consider Sanskrit as a national language, noting that there is still a need to promote and apply Sanskrit more widely in contemporary contexts. Expressing his appreciation, he remarked that the growing participation of SC/ST students in Sanskrit studies at Karnataka Samskrit University is both encouraging and inspiring. Shri N. Ravikumar, MLC, Karnataka Legislative Council, commended the seminar for providing a meaningful platform for scholarly discussions on Dr. Ambedkar and Sanskrit. He stated that the event offered an enriching academic experience for the students. He further noted with pride that over 11,000 SC, 10,000 ST, and more than 30,000 OBC students are currently studying Sanskrit under the University’s programs.
