DCM urged all caste communities to cooperate, saying the survey ensures societal understanding and fairness for future generations

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday urged the public to take part in the social and educational survey being carried out by the Backward Classes Commission. He said the survey would help provide justice for future generations and give proper information about all communities.
Shivakumar launched the survey in the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) area and said a survey was conducted at his own house. Speaking to the media near his residence in Sadashivanagara, he requested all caste communities to cooperate and share details patiently. “This survey will help understand the needs of society and ensure fairness for future generations,” he said.
On concerns that the survey questions are too many and complex, Shivakumar agreed they should be simpler. He noted urban residents are less patient and stressed that participation must be voluntary. “The court has said no one can be forced to give personal details,” he added, saying surveyors had been instructed to be sensitive while collecting data.
Addressing refusals to participate, he said it was the public’s duty to share information. He promised to resolve technical issues and allow online participation. Responding to BJP claims that the survey may lead to conversions, he said, “What can we say about the elders?”
Shivakumar also spoke about tax issues, calling it a loss of Rs 15,000–20,000 crore to the state. He demanded the central government provide compensation, saying, “Our tax is our right.”
