BJP slams Rahul Gandhi over foreign remarks

Bhatia praised Modi’s leadership, praised Operation Sindoor, and accused Gandhi of defaming India abroad

New Delhi

BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia on Saturday strongly criticised Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his remarks in Colombia, saying Gandhi’s visit abroad is aimed only at defaming India. He stressed that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has grown stronger.

Bhatia said, “We all know how India has grown stronger under PM Modi. The armed forces were given full freedom, and Operation Sindoor sent a strong message. Gandhi has been on foreign soil for four days, and his only job is to defame India, which is progressing.”

Rahul Gandhi, earlier speaking at EIA University in Colombia, had said India faces “structural flaws” in governance and that democracy in the country is under threat. He also stressed the need for India’s diverse traditions to be preserved.

Bhatia labelled Gandhi’s remarks as “anti-India” and “insulting to the nation.” He also referenced former Home Minister P Chidambaram and Congress leader Manish Tewari, pointing to their statements on foreign pressure influencing India’s response after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Bhatia said, “It is worrying that a government entrusted with protecting India’s sovereignty became a puppet of foreign powers.” Chidambaram had earlier said international pressure, especially from the US, shaped India’s stance after the 26/11 attacks.

Manish Tewari supported Chidambaram’s statement, saying it cannot be disregarded. The BJP said Gandhi’s statements abroad harm India’s image, while Congress leaders defended raising concerns over governance and democracy.
