Deputy Commissioner T Venkatesh directs officials to ensure meaningful celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti with homage, cleanliness drives, and educational programs on October 2.

Deputy Commissioner T Venkatesh has instructed officials to take all necessary preparatory measures to celebrate the birth anniversaries of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri in a meaningful manner on October 2 at the district headquarters. He made these remarks after presiding over a preliminary meeting on Friday.
On October 2, the Jayanti celebrations will include paying homage to the portraits of Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shastri in all government offices, schools, and colleges. All district-level officials are expected to participate in the programme to be held in the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Hall. Prior to the event, a Shramadan will be organised to clean the premises around the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and Onake Obavva Circle, with arrangements to be made by the Municipal Council. Deputy Commissioner T Venkatesh emphasized that all officials must take part in the cleanliness drive without fail.
Additional Deputy Commissioner BT Kumaraswamy directed that mandatory cleanliness activities be carried out in all district and subordinate government offices as part of the Gandhiji Jayanti observance.
As part of the celebrations, the Information Department has organised a district-level essay competition on Bapuji, with separate categories for high school, undergraduate, and graduate/postgraduate students. Prizes will be distributed to the winners during the programme, and essays that secure first place will be forwarded to the state-level competition, stated District Information Officer BV Tukaramrao during the meeting.
Following protocol, invitation cards for the programme will be printed and sent to people’s representatives. Deputy Commissioner T Venkatesh also instructed the Information Department to arrange a lecture highlighting Gandhiji’s life and achievements.
