Enhancing Revenue
Hubballi
The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) is taking a pioneering step towards boosting its revenue streams by leveraging its fleet of 314 auto tippers, which are integral to the city’s door-to-door garbage collection service.
This innovative approach involves transforming these vehicles into mobile advertising platforms, thereby creating a new avenue for revenue generation. Each auto tipper will broadcast advertisements as they make their rounds throughout the city, as all the auto tippers are equipped with an audio address system. This ensures that the advertisements reach a wide audience, as the tippers traverse various neighbourhoods daily.
The exterior of these vehicles will also be used for exclusive branding opportunities, allowing businesses to display their advertisements prominently on the auto tippers. This dual approach not only maximises the visibility of the advertisements but also ensures that the message reaches a diverse demographic, given the varied routes and areas covered by the garbage collection service. The HDMC anticipates that this strategy will generate substantial revenue, with projections estimating an influx of Rs 10 crore.
The proposal is set to be presented at the forthcoming general body meeting, where it will be discussed and potentially approved. If given the green light, this initiative could set a precedent for other municipal corporations across the country, showcasing how existing resources can be utilised innovatively to enhance revenue without imposing additional financial burdens on citizens.
Moreover, this initiative aligns with sustainable practices by ensuring that the vehicles, which are already part of the city’s infrastructure, are used more efficiently. It also opens up new opportunities for local businesses to reach potential customers in a cost-effective manner.
HDMC’s Superintending Engineer R Vijay Kumar confirmed the proposal and stated that the subject will be presented before the general body of HDMC for approval.
