Raghunathan clinches runner-up title in Italian GT PRO-AM Endurance Championship

Mahaveer’s Historic Podium

Mugello
Indian racer Mahaveer Raghunathan etched his name into motorsport history at the Italian GT Endurance race in Mugello, becoming the first and only Indian to secure a runner-up finish in the 2025 Italian GT PRO-AM Endurance Championship. Driving car number 51 for AF Corse alongside teammates Lorenzo Ferrari and Riccardo Ponzio, Raghunathan powered the Ferrari 296 GT3 to a P3 overall finish and P2 in the PRO-AM class.

The trio collected 12 crucial points in the main race, which began with a strong P2 grid position after a sharp qualifying lap from Ferrari. Maintaining the spot through the opening stint, the team handed over to Raghunathan, who faced a tough test navigating heavy GT Cup traffic. Emerging from the pit window, he lost vital seconds behind slower cars but showcased composure, executing clean overtakes without incident. His disciplined race craft and defensive driving allowed the team to stay in contention despite the challenges.

During his second stint, Raghunathan impressed with his ability to fend off direct rivals while continuing to manage the constant traffic on Mugello’s narrow, technical circuit. Reflecting on the race, he highlighted his growth over the season in handling pressure situations. My main takeaway is to use everything I’ve learned fighting with other cars, having a good race craft and challenge for the title in the last two rounds of the Sprint championship, he said.

With momentum on his side, attention now turns to the Italian GT Sprint Championship. Raghunathan expressed confidence ahead of the penultimate round at Imola, promising to bring all his experience into the fight for the title.
