Sindhu storms into pre-quarters with commanding win over Jakobsen in just 27 minutes

India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu began her China Masters Super 750 campaign in emphatic fashion, breezing past Denmark’s Julie Dawall Jakobsen 21-4, 21-10 to enter the women’s singles pre-quarterfinals. The two-time Olympic medallist needed just 27 minutes to complete the job, bouncing back strongly from her first-round exit at the Hong Kong Open less than 10 days ago.
Sindhu, who has endured six opening-round losses on the BWF World Tour this year, looked sharp and focused from the outset. The 30-year-old raced to a commanding lead in the opening game, overwhelming Jakobsen with her aggressive smashes and tight net play. The game was wrapped up in just over 10 minutes, underlining the gulf in class between the two players.
The second game followed a similar trend, though Jakobsen briefly fought back. After Sindhu established an early 4-1 lead, the Dane pulled level at 4-4. But the Indian quickly regained control, shifting gears with a combination of quick footwork and precise shot placement. A six-point burst from 11-8 to 17-8 effectively ended Jakobsen’s challenge, and Sindhu closed out the match without further resistance.
This was Sindhu’s third successive win over Jakobsen, with their last encounter at the Yonex Swiss Open in March proving far more competitive. The display, however, highlighted Sindhu’s ability to dominate when in rhythm.
Later, rising Indian shuttler Ayush Shetty will take on sixth-seeded Chou Tien Chen in men’s singles, while the mixed doubles duo of Ruthvika Gadde and Rohan Kapoor are set to face Japan’s Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara. Shetty, who stunned Japan’s world No. 4 Kodai Naraoka last week, will aim for another strong run in Shenzhen.
