NIA chargesheets 3 in Amritsar grenade attack case

Mohali
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against three individuals for their alleged involvement in the grenade attack on Thakurdwara Sanatan Temple in Amritsar’s Chheharta area, which occurred on March 15, 2025, officials said on Sunday.

The charge sheet, submitted before the Special NIA Court in Mohali on Friday, names Vishal Gill alias Chuchi, Bhagwant Singh alias Manna Bhatti, and Diwan Singh alias Sunny. According to investigators, Gill was among the two bike-borne assailants who hurled the grenade. His accomplice, Gursidak Singh alias Sidki, was killed in police encounter two days after the attack.

The agency said Bhagwant Singh played a pivotal role by providing shelter, concealing weapons, and offering logistical support, including motorcycles for reconnaissance. Diwan Singh has been accused of harbouring co-conspirators and destroying crucial evidence.

Another accused, Sharanjeet Kumar, was arrested from Gaya, Bihar, on September 5 and remains under investigation. The NIA is also pursuing Badalpreet Singh, a foreign-based fugitive, along with other unidentified conspirators.

The probe has revealed the transfer of terror funds from foreign handlers to local operatives through UPI and MTSS channels. Officials said the financial trail points to a broader conspiracy involving both India- and foreign-based actors seeking to incite communal unrest in Punjab and destabilize the country.

The NIA stressed that efforts are underway to trace absconders, identify further international linkages, and dismantle the terror module behind the attack. Security agencies believe the Amritsar incident is part of a renewed push by foreign-backed terror outfits to disturb peace in Punjab.
