Minor held for attempted assault in Nelamangala

A 17-year-old boy was apprehended by villagers on Monday after allegedly attempting to sexually assault a woman walking in Bolamaranahalli village, police said. The incident has sparked outrage and gone viral on social media.

According to the complaint lodged at Nelamangala Rural Police Station, the 36-year-old woman was on her way to the bus stand when a bike-borne minor grabbed her hand and tried to drag her into a nearby field. The woman raised an alarm, and her cries for help drew the attention of villagers who rushed to her aid.

The minor was overpowered by the villagers and reportedly beaten before being handed over to the police. During questioning, he claimed that his intent was to snatch money and a chain from the woman, rather than commit sexual assault.

The victim was immediately taken to Nelamangala Public Hospital for medical treatment. Police have registered a case against the minor under relevant sections, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the full circumstances of the incident.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant while walking alone and stressed the importance of community support in preventing crimes. The police have also warned that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in assault or harassment to ensure the safety of citizens.

This incident has drawn widespread attention on social media, highlighting concerns over women’s safety in the area and prompting calls for enhanced patrolling and awareness initiatives.
