India’s digital economy grows faster than ever

New Delhi

India’s digital economy is growing three to four times faster than its traditional economy, according to Julian Gorman, Head of Asia Pacific at GSMA. Speaking at the COAI Dialogues 2025 in New Delhi, Gorman said digital services are now playing a major role in India’s development and could soon contribute up to 20% of the national economy.

He praised India’s progress in digital innovation and said the country is on track to become not only a telecom leader but also an inclusive global superpower. “India’s digital growth is drawing global attention,” Gorman stated, adding that the current ecosystem offers huge opportunities for companies and tech vendors.

Lt. Gen. Dr. SP Kochhar, Director General of COAI, echoed the optimism, saying India will lead the telecom world in the near future.

On the subject of cybersecurity, Gorman warned that growing digital activity also increases risks. “Cyber scams and data breaches are not just tech problems. They shake public trust,” he said. He stressed that digital trust must be a priority and called for a strong, collaborative effort from government, industry, and citizens to ensure a secure digital future.
