New Delhi
The capital city turned into a celebration of health and patriotism as the Fit India Sundays on Cycle event, themed Garv se Swadeshi, saw massive participation on Sunday. The initiative, held in partnership with Indian Railways, aimed to promote fitness, clean living, and the spirit of Swadeshi through cycling.
Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya led the event, cycling alongside more than 50 Members of Parliament. “To promote Swadeshi and spread the message of Fit India, cycling events are being organised at various places. I’m happy to see such huge participation in Delhi today,” he said.
The cycling event began at the iconic Major Dhyan Chand Stadium and featured Cabinet Ministers, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members, and several sporting heroes. Union Minister of State Raksha Khadse stressed that the initiative not only spreads awareness about fitness but also supports a cleaner environment and helps address traffic concerns. MoS Bhagirath Choudhary added that Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a fitter India makes cycling a perfect choice of exercise.
Prominent BJP MPs such as Mahesh Kashyap, Bhojraj Nag, and Naveen Jindal took part. Jindal remarked, “I exercise every day, but cycling has its own fun. I was glad to join this movement today.”
Athletes also inspired the public with their presence. Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik encouraged people to adopt sports for fitness, while Dronacharya Awardee Jaydev Bisht noted the growing culture of exercise and outdoor activity among citizens.
The campaign seeks to build a national culture of fitness while highlighting pride in Swadeshi values. Organisers hope such events will encourage citizens to stay active and embrace healthier lifestyles.
