Officials Call for Collective Efforts to Build a Drug-Free Society

CH News

Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer M. Nagamani has urged the public and community groups to actively participate in creating awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and to help society overcome this growing challenge. She was speaking after inaugurating the “Drug-Free Karnataka Campaign” under the National Rural Livelihood Mission at the Taluk Panchayat hall in Gudibande on Saturday.

Addressing members of women’s self-help groups, Nagamani emphasized that drug addiction, though often appearing attractive like a flower, is filled with poisonous thorns that ultimately destroy lives. She noted that the problem cannot be solved by law enforcement alone and requires a three-pronged approach—awareness, compassion, and rehabilitation.

“Only when every citizen takes a step forward in building a drug-free society can we achieve the vision of a drug-free Karnataka,” she said. Highlighting the ongoing initiatives in the taluk, she explained that continuous awareness drives and campaigns are being carried out, and the new phase of the campaign will run from August 1 to September 30. The primary focus is to address the rising misuse of drugs and its harmful consequences on individuals and families.

The campaign will work closely with women’s self-help groups and other community organizations to spread awareness about the violence, exploitation, and social problems linked to substance abuse. Programs will also be organized at the taluk and gram panchayat levels with the support of multiple government departments to educate communities and prevent drug misuse. Officials including NRLM Non-Farm Manager Chetan, Zonal Supervisor D. A. Meena, BRP PRI Jayalakshmamma, and EP Shobha were present at the event.
