The 50% discount scheme on pending traffic fines has seen a massive response in Bengaluru, with motorists clearing penalties worth ₹35.72 crore since its launch on August 23.
According to Bengaluru Traffic Police, a total of 12,70,950 pending violation cases have been settled within less than two weeks. The concession allows vehicle owners to pay only half of their outstanding fines, encouraging thousands of violators to clear long-pending dues.
The scheme will remain in effect until September 12 and is applicable only within the Bengaluru city limits. Motorists who have violated traffic rules in the city can avail themselves of the benefit before the deadline.
The initiative was formally announced by the State Transport Department through an order issued by Under-Secretary Pushpa V. S. The department had directed the traffic police to provide the concession, highlighting it as an opportunity for citizens to regularize their records while boosting government revenue.
Officials noted that a similar discount scheme announced earlier by the state government had also witnessed heavy participation, resulting in substantial fine collections. The present initiative appears to be following the same trend, with citizens thronging digital platforms and traffic management centers to make payments. Authorities believe the scheme not only helps recover huge pending amounts but also brings discipline among motorists by pushing them to clear their dues. With over a week left for the deadline, the collected amount is expected to rise significantly.
