Hubballi
Hubballi Airport, one of India’s recognised green airports, has been functioning without an Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) for the past year, raising concerns among stakeholders.
AACs, which include elected representatives, district officials, police, and members of the public, play a key role in airport development and flight operations. Former AAC member Vishwanath Somapur noted that the Union government has stressed in Parliament that AACs ensure broad stakeholder representation, fostering transparent and inclusive decision-making.
He recalled that the previous committee’s efforts led to major developments such as a new terminal foundation, enhanced parking, increased flights, and a push for international airport status. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi had also taken several of their demands to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in Delhi.
PM Veeresha Sharma, Secretary of the Green Tech Industrial Park Association, pointed out that in the AAC’s absence, parking problems have resurfaced. With Hubballi Airport attracting international attention, he stressed that reinstating the committee is essential.
The AAC is typically chaired by the local MP and includes the area MLA, airport director, airline representatives, senior police officials, the Municipal Commissioner, and other nominated members.
