Lalbagh Flower show footfall
The annual Lalbagh Flower and Fruit Exhibition has once again captured the city’s imagination, drawing record crowds and revenue during the Independence Day week. Organized inside the historic Glass House, this year’s exhibition was themed on the valiant freedom fighters Rani Chennamma of Kittur and Sangolli Rayanna, and has become one of the most successful editions in recent years.
The exhibition, whichh opened on August 7, witnessed a surge of visitors on August 15 as thousands of families, students, and tourists flocked to Lalbagh to celebrate Independence Day. According to official figures, more than 1.79 lakh people visited the garden on Friday alone, including 33,000 children and nearly 20,000 school students. Ticket sales on that single day generated a revenue of ₹88.47 lakh, marking a significant milestone for the event.
Authorities had anticipated heavy turnout and took measures to manage the crowd. Additional ticket counters were set up at all four gates, while horticulture staff and police personnel worked tirelessly to ensure smooth entry and crowd control. The park’s nurseries and sales stalls also saw brisk business, with thousands purchasing plants and decorative items.
The Independence Day holiday, coupled with a brief pause in the city’s rains, gave residents a perfect reason to visit Lalbagh. Metro services along the Yellow Line eased access from distant areas like Electronic City, though heavy traffic snarls were reported along Hosur Road, JC Road, and surrounding areas. Officials said the enthusiastic response reflects Bengaluru’s enduring love for the annual flower show, which continues until August 18.
