With SIR enumeration ending August 17, uncertainty over PRC acceptance leaves thousands of voters awaiting clarity from election officials.

The Karnataka election machinery is yet to clarify whether Permanent Residential Certificates (PRCs) issued by the State government will be accepted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Election Commission of India lists PRC among 11 indicative documents that voters may submit. The issue is significant for over 28 lakh unmapped voters and those flagged for logical discrepancies in enumeration forms. The State government has launched a doorstep drive to issue PRCs and caste certificates, acknowledging that many voters lack even one of the prescribed documents. Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbu Kumar said clarity on PRCs would be provided “later”.
