India captain Harmanpreet Kaur etched her name into cricket history by becoming the first player in international cricket, across both women’s and men’s formats, to feature in 200 Twenty20 Internationals.

The landmark came during India’s Women’s T20 World Cup match against South Africa in Manchester, marking another remarkable chapter in the veteran all-rounder’s illustrious career spanning more than 17 years.

Harmanpreet, who made her international debut in March 2009 in an ODI against Pakistan, played her first T20 International later that year against England at Taunton. Since then, she has emerged as one of the most influential figures in women’s cricket and a key pillar of India’s success on the global stage.

The 37-year-old was honoured ahead of the match with a special jersey and cap bearing the number “200”. The presentation was made by India head coach Amol Muzumdar and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana during the team’s pre-match huddle.

Reflecting on the achievement, Harmanpreet expressed gratitude to everyone who had supported her journey. “It’s been an amazing journey. I never thought I’d come this far, but God has been kind. I’m thankful to my family, friends, BCCI and teammates for their support,” she said at the toss.

Interestingly, Harmanpreet admitted to feeling nervous before the milestone game. While presenting the debut cap to youngster Prema Rawat, she remarked that she was “more nervous” playing her 200th match than the debutant appeared to be.

The Indian skipper tops the list of players with the most women’s T20I appearances. She is followed by New Zealand’s Suzie Bates with 184 matches, England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge with 183, Australia’s Ellyse Perry with 177 and Mandhana with 169.

Among men’s players, Ireland’s Paul Stirling leads with 163 T20Is, ahead of former India captain Rohit Sharma on 159.

Harmanpreet’s latest milestone underscores her enduring excellence and cements her legacy as one of the greatest players in the history of the shortest format.
