Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar issued a stern warning against cheating and exploitation of women, stressing that such acts will not be tolerated.

Speaking at the annual general meeting of the Sanjeevini Women’s Federation, held at the Animal Husbandry Department auditorium, Hebbalkar flagged off members heading to the Dharwad Agricultural Fair 2025. She cautioned women against falling prey to microfinance scams and criticised officials who treat women with disregard.

“Women have built organisations to live with dignity despite struggles. A hand that rocks the cradle can rule the world, and your achievements prove this. The government is committed to recognising and supporting women’s contributions,” she said.

Highlighting welfare schemes initiated by Congress governments, the minister listed NREGA, 50 percent reservation for women in local bodies, the mid-day meal scheme, ASHA worker appointments, and the Gruha Lakshmi scheme as milestones. “Since it is women who keep households running, they must be empowered with authority and dignity, she remarked.

Hebbalkar further urged women to remain vigilant against private finance companies exploiting them. Women are not weak; they are powerful. Justice and cooperation must be ensured for them, she asserted.

The event was attended by Nirmala Tigadi, Mallikarjun Kelakar, Dr. Anand Patil, Dr Ravi Saligoudar, Pradeep Sawant, Mahadev Patagundi, Mahesh Bhajantri, federation members, Pashu Sakhis and Krishi Sakhis.
