In a tragic incident, a 9-year-old girl died after a rope used for a swing tightened around her neck while she was playing, police said.
The incident occurred in Vidyanagar, Shivamogga, about three days ago but came to light later. The deceased has been identified as Pranamya.
According to police, the girl had come to her aunt’s house in Lakkinakoppa during her summer vacation. While playing on a swing made using a cloth rope, the rope accidentally tightened around her neck.
When she did not respond for a long time, her aunt checked and found the child unconscious. She was immediately rushed for help, but doctors confirmed that the girl had already died.
The incident has been registered at the Tunganagar Police Station and further investigation is underway.
Police said it appears to be an accidental death, but all aspects are being verified.
The tragedy has shocked the local community, especially as it involved a child during a routine play activity at home.
Authorities have once again urged parents and guardians to closely supervise children during holidays and ensure that unsafe play setups are avoided to prevent such accidents.
Further formal procedures have been completed as part of the investigation, police added.
