Police have solved a series of theft cases in Hunasagi and surrounding areas, recovering gold ornaments and cash worth ₹41 lakh, said Superintendent of Police Prithvik Shankar.

Addressing a press conference, the SP said a total of five theft cases were cracked—three under Hunasagi police station limits and two under Kembhavi police station limits. In the Hunasagi cases, gold ornaments worth ₹38 lakh were recovered, while ₹2.80 lakh cash was seized in the Kembhavi cases.

A special investigation team was formed under the guidance of SP Prithvik Shankar and Surpur DySP Javeed Inamdar, led by CPI Ravikumar. PSI officers Rahul Pawade, Amoz Kamble, Bhagyanna, and other staff members participated in the operation.

During the probe, police arrested accused Nagappa alias Nagaraj, who allegedly confessed to committing the thefts along with his associate Veerappa alias Birlingsa Devikeri. Authorities recovered 22 tolas of gold ornaments and ₹1.80 lakh in cash from them. Another accused, Raghavendra Bhajarangi from Gadag, was found in possession of 10 tolas of gold ornaments.

The SP appreciated the efforts of the investigation team and announced rewards for their effective work in cracking the cases.

In a related development, police used the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system to trace 16 stolen mobile phones and returned them to their owners. Officer Siddu Balasettihal was specially commended for his role.

The SP also issued a warning about rising road accidents and fire incidents, noting that unsafe practices such as dumping paddy on roads and leaving debris like stones and sand are increasing risks. He urged rural awareness campaigns and stricter road safety measures to prevent further mishaps.
