Rajmargyatra app surges to top of charts as FASTag adoption hits 98% across India

Government Highlights Digital Transformation, Sustainability in India’s Expanding Highway Network

New Delhi

The government on Tuesday announced that the Rajmargyatra mobile application for FASTag services has become one of the most popular apps in India, climbing to 23rd overall and second in the travel category on Google Play, with over 15 lakh downloads. The app achieved this milestone just days after the launch of the FASTag Annual Pass feature, earning an impressive 4.5-star user rating.

According to an official statement, India’s road infrastructure continues to witness unprecedented growth. The country’s total road network has surpassed 63 lakh kilometres, while the National Highway network has expanded to 1,46,204 kilometres as of March 2025 — marking a 60 per cent increase since 2013–14. Between 2014 and 2025, India added 54,917 kilometres of new national highways, reflecting the government’s sustained focus on connectivity and infrastructure development.

FASTag penetration across India has reached 98 per cent, with over 8 crore users nationwide. The recently introduced FASTag Annual Pass has already attracted 25 lakh users, facilitating around 5.67 crore transactions within two months of its August launch. The government credited the success of Rajmargyatra and FASTag for enhancing commuter convenience, digital transparency, and toll efficiency across the national highway network.

In line with the push for sustainable infrastructure, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways highlighted initiatives like the Green Highways Mission and Mission Amrit Sarovar. Under these programs, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) planted 56 lakh saplings in 2023–24 and 67.47 lakh in 2024–25, taking the cumulative total to over 4.69 crore trees. Additionally, 467 water bodies have been developed under Mission Amrit Sarovar, contributing 2.4 crore cubic metres of soil for highway construction and saving approximately ₹16,690 crore.

The government also reported the use of over 631 lakh metric tonnes of recycled materials — including fly ash, plastic waste, and reused asphalt — in 2023–24, underscoring India’s growing commitment to digitalisation and green infrastructure.
