Beed
NCP minister Dhananjay Munde, who is contesting re-election from Parali constituency in Beed district, has alleged that a grand design is being plotted to defeat him in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections on November 20. Munde, a close ally of NCP National President Ajit Pawar, is facing a strong challenge from NCP(SP) candidate Rajesaheb Deshmukh. The election battle is being portrayed as a contest between the Vanjari and Maratha communities.
Munde, without naming any specific group, claimed that there is a strategic plan to end his political career because he could become an obstacle in certain political agendas. He referred to the tactics used in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where his cousin Pankaja Munde (BJP) was defeated after Maratha voters were mobilized during the pro-Maratha reservation protests led by Manoj Jarange-Patil.
In an emotional speech, Munde questioned why such a strategy was being aimed at him, despite his modest background, and expressed his confidence in the support of the people. He stated that no matter what happens, the power behind his name lies with his constituents. Munde also emphasized that he has never let caste or religion dictate his politics and works solely for the welfare of the people.
Munde’s remarks are significant as NCP(SP) is going all out to secure Deshmukh’s victory, despite Munde having the backing of the BJP and Pankaja Munde.
