The Congress government on Wednesday in Himachal Pradesh issued a directive requiring all street vendors and food establishments to clearly display the names of their owners, managers, and staff. This initiative, inspired by the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, aims to enhance cleanliness and hygiene in food outlets.
Just a day prior, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mandated similar name displays for eatery owners and managers in Uttar Pradesh, along with the installation of CCTV cameras in restaurants and hotels.
Himachal’s Urban Development Minister, Vikramaditya Singh, explained that this decision was made to address public concerns about food safety at street stalls. He emphasized that the rules will be strictly enforced, and vendors will need to display their names and identification prominently. Complaints regarding food quality will prompt appropriate action.
While discussing food vendor licenses, Singh mentioned that preference will be given to local applicants. However, he acknowledged that reservations might be considered for individuals from the Dalit community and those with disabilities. He also emphasized that every food outlet must display the owner’s ID to ensure transparency and ease for customers.
This move follows Uttar Pradesh’s recent guidelines aimed at preventing food adulteration and ensuring accountability in the food industry.
